I used unlike colored peppers and didn't mensurate the ingredients exactly and I thought it was dandy! I used dark-brown rice, actress garlic, and cooked it for a total of one.5 hours. Great flavor, I will be making again!!!
03/09/2014
This is a bang-up recipe. I used ground turkey and italian turkey sausage instead of beef. The turkey is lower in fat which offsets the addtional cheese that I add.
04/22/2014
Made these last night for dinner changed a few things. I let the rice simmer in beef broth, sautƩed the onions, garlic added carrots and celery with Montreal spice.I too sautƩ the beefiness prior to stuffing the peppers. Mixed everything together calculation grated cheese and breadcrumbs. The stuffing was amazing! Stuff peppers and bake in oven at 350 for 45 min. Also found a zucchini in the fridge. Very succulent!!!! A must try very piece of cake and quick

Although I made a few small changes I must say that these are the best ever!! I didn't have chunky lycopersicon esculentum sauce and so just used canned chopped tomatoes and added tomato sauce to get the correct corporeality. I used shredded pepper jack instead of parmesean. Biggest change was to utilise my Dutch oven instead of wasting parchment paper and foil. Notwithstanding followed the temperature and fourth dimension and they came out perfect! Thanks!!

Our favorite blimp pepper recipe! We merely needed 3 medium sized peppers for our family unit, then I adjusted to 1 lb. of beef and 1 loving cup of rice. Notwithstanding only used half the stuffing mix. I made iv large meat balls with the remaining, boiled them in beefiness broth, and so drained and put in the refrigerator. I besides saved remaining pan drippings. 2 days afterwards, I skimmed fat off the pan drippings, poured it over the meatballs, and heated in covered dish in the oven. Served on egg noodles (tossed with butter & basil later on cooking). Yummy again. Volition add together a little pork sausage next time, as suggested.
02/06/2014
The whole family unit really enjoyed this one.add a few alterations though. I did non put the tops back on and replaced one lb of the hamburger with a lb of hot breakfast sausage. I too put mozzarella and parmesan cheese in the stuffing mix. Then I sprinkled pepperjack cheese on top during the concluding 10 min in the oven.

Update: I accept made this soooo many times now. My family loves it, and I generally make this, due to the color variations, for Christmas Eve every year. I wish I could observe a way to thicken the sauce, but it'southward just the mode it goes; expect a brothier sauce with some fat from the beef. However, this my go-to and only stuffed pepper recipe. Thanks again, years afterward. / Had leftover jasmine rice and accept been wanting to brand blimp peppers for a while. I never used a recipe before for stuffed peppers, only this is going in the book. I beloved everything about information technology. I scaled to four servings, and for the "mesomorphic tomato sauce", combined 8oz. can of love apple sauce and a fifteen oz. can of drained, diced tomatoes. Too used ground sirloin, and red peppers. Followed the directions. Easy to put together and broiled it for 90 minutes. All I can say is delicious!!! Accept passed on the recipe to my siblings before even finishing my dinner. Thank you!

It may merely be a difference in preference, merely these weren't our favorite stuffed bell peppers. Stuffing with raw meat and baking yielded drier meat that was sort of caked together, rather than the crumbly, saucy peppers that we were hoping for. Flavor was pretty good, although I might use 1/2 of the garlic this recipe calls for if I were to make information technology once more.
eleven/03/2014
I fabricated this today for tiffin and information technology was a Big hit. I actually assembled it yesterday afternoon and refrigerated information technology overnight. I made it as written except for slightly less salt. Information technology was excellent! In the past I have made these where you blanch the peppers first and brownish the footing beefiness. I thought this was so much easier, even though it does accept longer in the oven. The garlic and parmesan cheese gave the dish a wonderful flavor. I'grand looking frontward to making with half sausage, one-half footing beef side by side time. The merely thing was that I had to melt it longer than the recipe states. My peppers were large and I have a gas oven which e'er tends to accept longer. I even bumped the temperature up a bit for the first one-half hour, merely it notwithstanding took just shy of two hours. Thanks for the recipe!
02/xi/2014
This is undoubtedly the best pepper recipe I've ever eaten. I added a footling Italian sausage to the burger and too some herbes de provence to both the sauce and the meat. Wonderful!
01/23/2015
I make stuffed bell peppers all the fourth dimension, but I accept never idea to flatten the bottoms or poke holes so the juiced drain. Then smart! I am too going to attempt putting the peppers on a raised cooking canvass and then the peppers don't swim in juice the whole fourth dimension. I highly recommend putting aluminum foil down as well to assist with cleanup. These tasty buggers make a mess.
eleven/18/2014
OMG. Absolutely loved this recipe. Best stuffed pepper's I've e'er treated my oral cavity to. Adjacent fourth dimension, I've going to try and layer the meat/rice mixture with either Ricotta or Cottage cheese(whichever I have, volition bleed cottage cheese). This recipe actually is astonishing, though it did take a bit longer than I imagined to do the prep work. Well worth it though. I used ground turkey to make mine.
04/22/2014
This is then good!!!!! I used Hot Italian Turkey Sausage (remove the castings) instead of ground beef, and used chicken broth instead of beef goop. Absolutely fabulous!!!!!
07/24/2014
This was delicious! I used meatloaf mix (pork, beef, veal) instead of ground beef and regular not chunky love apple sauce. I as well found that nosotros liked it much improve with red, yellow, orange peppers vs. the green!
xi/15/2016
I mostly used this recipe as a guide and so, every bit I usually do, doctored information technology up accordingly. Instead of hamburger, I used Italian sausage. I precooked everything so broil fourth dimension was quicker. I utilise marinara, chop up the tops and add them to the mix and, because the mix is already hot, bake fourth dimension is but almost 45 min.
01/05/2016
Great basic recipe! I made it acc to Chef john'southward instructions and they came out perfectly! I used 1lb ground beef and one/2lb sugariness Italian sausage. To the meat I added extra garlic, shredded carrots, herbs de provence, and a piffling sauteed onion along with Chef John's ingredients. I finished off some jarred spaghetti sauce and also used crushed tomatoes. Equally suggested by some other reviewer, I cooked brown rice in the beef stock with a bay leaf and a clove of garlic. When adding the meat mixture to the peppers, I added a little of the tomato plant sauce half way, and then more meat, and so topped with more sauce and the lids. I will line the baking sheet with foil adjacent time. My entire family loved it! Thanks, Chef John!!
11/14/2015
I have to confess, I don't like peppers! Simply, I ate 2 of these! I used beef and venison, dark-brown rice and a can of fire roasted tomatoes and a pocket-sized can of tomato sauce and dried parsley since I didn't have fresh. Otherwise I tried to follow the recipe pretty exactly. It was very skillful and was done in an 60 minutes and a one-half. I will be making this again, but non in a 9x13 pan...information technology's only besides big. I'grand going to use a taller casserole dish next fourth dimension. I had about a cup and a one-half of meat mixture left over and fabricated six niggling meatloafs in a muffin pan with that. It's very, very good!
09/08/2016
actually groovy recipe. I used footing sirloin and italian sausage. I was out of worcestchire sauce so i used teriyaki sauce in its place. I likewise used ii bags of Steam Fresh Birdseye Southwestern mode rice (microwaveable) which saved some time. I used two bags to cut down on the meat and plus we love rice. This was a great recipe that i topped off with a slice of provolone nether the broiler for a few minutes ( to brown). This was easier to gear up than my usual recipe.
08/08/2019
This recipe reminded me then much of my momma's stuffed bell peppers when I was growing up! I dearest how flavorful Chef John made it with the added red flakes! Perfect! I did find that the video says one/2 loving cup of beef broth only the recipe says 1 cup. I retrieve i/2 cup should be used in club to have a little thicker sauce! Honestly, this is a must try recipe because it is spot on! Love this and cheers Chef John!!
03/31/2016
This is a very simple all in one repast to prepare and easy cleanup. The sauce, although quite basic, had a overnice flavor and went well with the peppers. The filling was practically a meatball in consistency after baking which I liked, but my married woman said she would prefer more than rice and less meat. I wanted to follow as written and then didn't read others' tips and overall this makes a overnice dinner, especially with hot sauce. Side by side time I will likely add some additional seasoning and possible utilise yellow rice to raise things a fleck. Keep helpin me await practiced Chef John!
09/10/2016
Made this last nighttime and it was delicious! I did employ green peppers instead of ruddy and I switched out the rice and used Farro in its place. Next time I'll also add more onion since we all beloved the taste.. Too, since I went a piddling over on the quantity of meat, I rolled the remaining meat mixture into tiny meatballs and put them in the sauce in between the blimp peppers.
09/27/2015
Came out neat, even my two year old was eating the peppers! I only used a pound of ground turkey, and I added all the reserve tomato sauce to the meat mixture. Later on stuffing, I used the sauce from the pan to garnish the tops. And I used curly parsley, it was astonishing. I did follow the recommendation to put a cookie canvas under the dish. I think this helped keep them moist, and the bells slightly crisp. I used orange bells.
04/01/2015
Had lots of left over rice and then added information technology to browned up footing beef, onion, jalapeno and our seasoning preferences. I cut our peppers lengthwise ( personal) and baked with some seasoned diced tomato plant, nigh 45 min. Very nice, easy dish. Would love to try with Italian sausage.
02/15/2016
I microwaved the peppers for about 7 to 10 min, in order to soften them, also precooked the sauce on stove. I was running late on time, yes I'll melt this again.
04/27/2019
I always loved my mom's stuffed peppers growing up which was basically meatloaf, blimp in raw green peppers. When I got older and looked up the recipe, I saw it had rice, the meat was sauteed and peppers blanched starting time. I just went back to my Mom's fashion. But this recipe is my Mom'southward on steroids. I added 1 egg and a footling staff of life crumbs to the meat mixture and used Italian diced tomatoes forth with the tomato sauce. Information technology was succulent! The sauce is and so good; helps keep everything moist. He's right, the cookie sheet makes information technology take longer simply establish information technology cooked evenly. I like the suggested way to cut the peppers and using the chapeau. Y'all can go alot more meat in there. I made four and heaped them high like an ice cream cone. This will at present be my get to recipe.
07/27/2016
I used red bell peppers, Italian sausage instead of ground beef and quinoa in stead of rice (diabetic household) and used very little salt.. Used mozerella cheese cause that's what Ihad on hand. I made 3 for me and 3 for my husband who likes a more spicy flavor. In his I added Mrs. Dash Actress Spicy Seasoning and a pinch of habanero. They were delicious and we will definitely brand them over again. My husband who is a Picky Eater and was quite hesitant about trying this, loved his. They re-warm up very well in the microwave.
08/ten/2014
First time having stuffed peppers. Used this recipe. Turned out awesome. I loved the estrus from pepper flakes. Used Rinaldi spag sauce instead of plain tomato sauce. Volition definitely make again.
08/26/2016
The rice was mush because information technology was already cooked, the bell peppers were almost raw.
05/05/2014

03/22/2015

08/01/2014
Very good, dandy use of left over rice with not much burger. Economical and yummy!
07/12/2016
Was in a compression for fourth dimension, and so wanted to cook everything first. Here were my changes: -Merely sliced the tops off v peppers (no other messing with them), and roasted them 15 min @ 425 by themselves right on the oven rack (needed double this or increased heat) -Cooked the ane/2 finely cut onion and tbsp garlic in a pan, added half to the sauce at the bottom of the blistering dish, left half in the pan. -Added sweetness italian flavored ground chicken to the pan, added ~ 1T of it. seasoning and cooked until done. I followed the rest of the recipe & these turned out fabulously. Next fourth dimension I'll use a fiddling more sauce in the meat mixture, which is how my mom used to brand them. My hubby and I both said "go along!" to this recipe. I'll make these again!
05/13/2015
Fabricated with ane/ii footing beef and 1/2 sugariness Italian sausage. Stuffed in greenish peppers. Delicious - Thanks Chef John
02/26/2017
Great dish, only takes much longer to cook. We now cook the ground beef about 50% prior to placing in peppers, as you still need plenty fourth dimension to soften the peppers.
11/04/2016
I precooked the meat. That felt safer. I love the Italian flair. Side by side time I will do half Italian sausage. I also added shredded cheese to the top after the spoons full of lycopersicon esculentum sauce. I think information technology needs more sauce in the peppers.
03/23/2020
I make it a different manner and less time consuming. I take out the core and all the seeds...then I boil the bong peppers 10 min ...while boiling I brown the footing beefiness onions with tomatoes sauce of your liking and as well seasonings of your liking....I like the knorrs rice 7 minutes then I mix in with the ground beef...I then gear up bell peppers on a cookie sheet I put shredded Mexican cheese on bottom and then fill with stuffing and sprinkle and repeat with Mexican cheese on top put in oven for 350 degrees or fill cheese is melted....commonly only takes about near 5 to 7 minutes and voila done!!! My fiance...picky kids and friends hard workers love this recipe.never failed...please savour
01/26/2016
I used 1 cup mozzeralla and 1/ii parmesan. I also substituted the parsley for oregano, thyme, and basil. I used chicken goop instead of beefiness goop considering...well...oops. I added in spinach and mushrooms. I used Prego 3 cheese tomato sauce.
08/04/2015
Loved this recipe! Brought back memories of Mom making stuffed peppers when we had an abundance of bell peppers in the garden. I fabricated this recipe gluten-gratuitous and dairy free considering of nutrient allergies in the family unit. Wonderful and easy to make. I'm in the process of making this now simply in the video you say to use 1/two a cup of broth but the recipe says 1 cup. You said put 2 1/two cups of tomato sauce in the pan but then we need more to put on top of the peppers and the same with the parsley. I'one thousand just a little confused just hopefully it turns out good...
03/08/2019
I sprinkled mozzarella cheese over each 1 , yummy!!!!!!!!! These are perfect stuffed bell peppers!!!
03/19/2017

10/10/2019

I went Pheasant hunting in Western Kansas and spent evenings and ate our meals in a friends parents farmhouse. WAS led to believe they are of GERMAN origin? The friend is Jerry Younger from the Far-Mar-Co Company. The Western Kansas community is Hays Kansas on I-70!
02/17/2020
I've fabricated this keeping to the verbal ingredients and information technology'due south a winner. However, tonight I made it again but noticed I didn't have enough footing beef and then, I took some cooked pork chorizo I had in the freezer to brand up for the basis beefiness. 08/22/2018
Information technology was delicious. The merely alter I made was that I stuffed hatch peppers instead of bell peppers. They're in flavour for such a curt time that this was a bang-up way of enjoying this excellent delicacy.
04/21/2021
This is a recipe to hang onto! So I took the advice of another commenter and I boiled the bell peppers while I browned the meat. I let my oven preheat at 375 and cooked ane pound of burger and a half pound of turkey sausage with olive oil, garlic, a can of mushrooms ,and part of a couple green onion. While I let the grease drain off to the same pot I added a tin can of diced tomatoes, a can of love apple sauce, garlic from a jar, and the rest of the green onions. I seasoned with stale tyme, parsley, chili flakes, crushed bay leaves, and pepper. I added the meat back to the sauce along with my jasmine rice (rice cooker is a life saver). As you can see I used a Dutch oven (and posted three times because I didn't know what I was doing) in that location was no demand for me to cutting the bottoms because they all fit in the bottom nicely and could've fit a 7th. I used cooking spray on the bottom then assembled, mozzarella, filling, mozzarella, superlative of peppers. There was filling left over I simply piled it into the middle and covered it with cheese too. Later I let the whole thing cook for 10 minutes I broiled the summit so the cheese got brown. And so much fun to make and very very tasty.
01/31/2019

07/24/2016
Double batch for lunches and freezing. Very good but 2nd batch turned out meliorate. Additional parsmesan and a little mozzarella as well as diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce. My new favorite blimp pepper recipe. Too added quite a scrap more garlic. Personal gustation. Excellent. Much easier than par-humid peppers similar my former recipe called for. The parsley was a different twist too.
05/01/2016
I used scarlet peppers, wild rice, 1 tin can Italian style diced tomatoes &i can Italian tomato plant paste (instead of the mesomorphic lycopersicon esculentum paste), and vegan meat, delicious!
03/14/2017
I made this last night for dinner. Hubby and I really enjoyed it, we switched the serving size downward to four so there would be leftovers to have to lunch. Really glad we did that. Simply thing I would change is the amount of sauce, I would prefer there to be more sauce and thicker.
01/x/2017
I think this is one of the all-time Beefiness and Rice Stuffed Pepper recipes I've e'er fabricated. The beef is very flavorful and the sauce is succulent. I used one pound basis beef and 1 pound mild pork sausage. I used both sweet red and dark-green peppers that were quite large.
08/09/2017
My go-to recipe for stuffed peppers! I used to make them a sure style for 10 years, but this is the style I make them from at present on. I absolutely love the onion and tomato sauce these peppers melt in. It is and so good spooned over the peppers, and a lot of times I have leftover sauce that I tin re-utilize in other recipes, or relish in a encarmine mary. This is a classic, unproblematic, comforting dish that everyone will love. I can't await for Fall/Winter to roll in so I can start using my oven again!!
04/26/2018
Just made it for dinner this evening. DELICIOUS ??!!!!! Only matter that I did different was that U used tomato plant sauce with cheese already in it. It was dollop skillful ??. 08/14/2016

Information technology reminds me of my grandmothers and then thought I would try it. :) I changed a few things, I had just made bootleg salsa (pico) and then I used this forth with 1 loving cup of canned tomato sauce. I did non use the parsley just had cilantro in the salsa. Really liked this and will do it over again.
03/07/2020
My daughter and friend loved it! Absolutely succulent!
08/24/2020
I have fabricated this so many times over the years, for guests and merely for us. I e'er use some course of marinara, either homemade or if I am lazy, jarred. Yesterday I used a jar of Mid's Marinara. I e'er slice a whole sweet onion and use carmine and yellow peppers. I had bought a new chunk of parm but concluded up using the remnants of some leftover parm, cheddar, and a piffling cojack from the fridge that we had shredded over the past week for other meals and it was great. I can't imagine ever going back to the old way of making stuffed peppers. I beloved Chef John.
04/26/2019

ten/31/2016
Made it substantially by the given recipe but took a few shortcuts: used dried onionbits in the sauce and the same tomato sauce in the meat as in the pan- not a chunky one. Of grade I had to sprinkle more grated cheese on top towards the finish. Anybody loved it from the i yr onetime to the 70 year old! Volition be making this again.
08/07/2017
This will definitely be a recipe we utilize often. Made it exactly as directed with ane modest Edition mozzarella. I'm sure would have been but equally expert without it. Swell RECIPE!!! Nosotros take a large family so I doubled up on recipe with leftover meat fabricated meatballs was excellent no leftovers.
02/02/2022
I added Italian sausage, minced garlic, beef base of operations and substituted tomato paste for tomato plant sauce in my mix. I also added onion soup mix and cut the salt intake to one/2 tsp. And used spaghetti sauce for my pan base. It was so good!
09/09/2021

ten/27/2020
Slap-up stuffed peppers I changed to cherry-red peppers because I exercise non like green
10/02/2020

10/29/2017
This was a good recipe simply I didn't take the right stuff....I had Infinitesimal Brown Rice that I didn't cook...I didn't brown the ground chuck, I cut the onions very minor and didn't soften them....cooked the dish hour covered and a half hour uncovered....I also added a tin can of Italian tomatoes ane/2 in making meat and rice stuffing and half with the tomato sauce, I only had a 8 ounce can.information technology turned out great and was moist and rice was done very flavorful...Thanks, Happy Cooking!

12/09/2016
Just fabricated this, very good. Keeper recipe, will brand again. I did as some other person did, used i can of diced tomatoes and a tin of lycopersicon esculentum sauce. Did bake for 2 hours though. I used red and orange peppers, just like the season of those peppers better.
02/21/2020

04/10/2017
I followed all the instructions but I felt the peppers were not every bit juicy as I expected them to be, the meat was more than of a hard ball in the middle. The gustation of the filling was good. I volition try them over again but this time i think i will melt the beef separately.
